It is not every day that a house is built. So, if you are building your house or your office for that matter, you would always want to use the best materials to build it. Be the building materials, the tiles or the lighting of the whole house. You would notice that the old houses had a complex chain of lighting wires and connections throughout the house. The walls had to be torn open for installation of lights. With time, designs and styles have changed drastically. With the introduction of recessed lighting, things have become much simpler.

The Installation Process
Make a plan
You can’t just go forward and fit a light inside your property. Make a plan as to where and how you want to get the light fit. Take a graph and make a rough idea regarding the positioning of the light. Say for example, if you want to place the light in your living room area, you plan accordingly to place it over your drawing room, to get maximum light in the hall. Once you have a full proved plan, you can go to the store and show it to the store executive. He or she will further guide you with your lighting process. Once you both come to a positive conclusion, you can takeadvice from the executive regarding the type of recessed light that can be fit there. If you own the house, you can always go ahead and install it. However, if you stay in a rented property, you need to first take permission from the property owners or handlers. Many residential complexes also require you to take permission before you make any physical changes in the property. Once you are through that, you can start with the installation work.

Cut holes in the wall
The next thing you need to do is find out the switch box to which you want to connect the wires of this light. Cut holes in the ceiling and check if there is any “hot” wire to which the wire of this light can be connected. Once you figure out the wire, check if the switch box is getting overloaded by this light connection or not. For this, make sure you check the ampere of the existing switch box with all its connections. Then add the ampere of this light and see if it exceeds the normal limit. If it doesn’t, you are good to go. If it does, you need to find out another connection in some other side of the house. Here, please note that the National Electric Code has standards of the power used by you. You have to be aware of all their standards and then go on to fix your light. Once you are done with choosing the electric box, take steps to change it. Whenever you add new connections to the box, it is necessary to replace it with a new box. Note that if you have aluminum wiring, it is always better to hire a licensed person to do the whole work.
Run the cables
Once you are done with the points mentioned above, it is now time to decide how you would like to run the cables through the ceilings. For this, first, try to understand how the other wires have been run and their direction. Once you have identified the surroundings, you are good to go. Before you make the final hole, make a small hole and see if it will be enough to fit in your recessed light. If it is, you can start installing it, when you start running the cables, you should join them with fish tapes and put them back to the joist spaces. That would be all you’re your cable work.

Fit the light and dress the wall
After the important cable work, you got to fit the recessed light now. Once you are done doing that, make sure you repair that portion of the ceiling wall and get it re-painted. It is very important to make it look the same after you are done with your work. However, before you can seal it again, get it checked by the electricity board personnel to make sure that the connection is fine, and the light has been installed properly. Once they approve you can go ahead with the remaining work.
Let us take a look at the basic things you need to keep in mind when you want to install recessed lights.
